「音樂啟蒙甚早的Tori Amos，從小就顯得與眾不同，從音樂怪胎到重金屬搖滾狂妄青春再到一頭紅髮的音樂精靈，其在琴藝、詞彙與歌聲之間的真實情感,如鬼靈精一般的洞察力與創意，擺在90年代的女性創作風潮裏，確實有其獨立神采。
1963年8月22日出生於北卡羅萊納州的Tori Amos，走過一段漫漫長程才獻上她的第一張驚世傑作。這位衛理公會派牧師的明珠，在學會說話前就會彈琴，在歡度三歲生日前就開始創作，四歲就在教堂唱詩班擔任鋼琴彈奏與演唱，幼時的樂器才華，讓她在五歲時就以獎學金申請進入巴爾地摩的Paebody音樂學校就讀，成為該校最年輕的學生。對節奏有著奇特感應的她，小時候就不時獲邀為派對彈奏，但十歲時，校方卻因無法忍受艾莫絲顛覆傳統的古典鋼琴演繹方式，而將她開除。帶著困惑與憤怒離開學校，她轉而呼吸到來自齊柏林飛船合唱團(Led Zeppelin)、披頭四、吉米漢醉克斯(Jimi Hendrix)等搖滾樂的恣意能量，決定矢志當個搖滾歌手。13歲的她跟著爸爸巡迴駐唱，彈一些蓋西文(Gershwin)的作品，開啟歌唱生涯的第一章。
1991年冬季，此Tori Amos的處女大碟面市，將她的心靈抑制與自我解放的輪迴糾結，都記錄下來，支支俱是筆下心血，什麼都不保留，性、壓抑、成長、痛苦、懷孕恐懼、強暴、情慾，幾乎每個題材都反應她不妥協的創作意念，乍聽之下，這樣的內容或許太沈重、太露骨了，但Tori以饒富創意的手法來經營個人的音樂國度，歌曲以奇美的鋼琴和弦層層鑲飾，人聲在假音世界裡游走自若，高音域唱腔的轉折迂迴尤為懾人，當一波又一波的樂聲高低起伏時，如鮮明雋永的詩篇般，所有的情緒行雲流水地渲洩在音符裡，重新體現Kate Bush的熱情浪漫、Joni Mitchell的靈氣智慧。除了專輯本身進佔英國金榜第14名，單曲"Silent All These Years"亦獲得MTV音樂錄影帶大獎最佳女歌手、新進、創意與攝影4項提名，而其歌聲與琴聲串聯的真實表白情緒，亦透過"China"等作品創造出相當悅耳的情感共鳴，展現出忠於自我情緒的驚人創作力量，專輯迅速地創下全球200萬張的銷售讓她初嚐成名的喜悅。」
