Renew Palace Museum in Your Home

This do-it-yourself souvenir brings historical decorations straight into your own house. Here’s how you do it: buy a role of shrinkage stocking with decorative patterns, available in the museum gift shop. Find a nice bottle, get a scissor and cut out a decorative piece that fits the bottle. Hold it and heat it with a hairdryer until it’s fixed. You’ve created an authentic looking bottle. Be proud!

 Ming dolls

Beauty gets a different interpretation when you put it in a historical perspective and that’s exactly the idea behind this souvenir. It is based on a famous small terracotta sculpture of a Chinese woman with voluptuous roundings, made according to the ideal of beauty in the Ming dynasty. The replica Ming dolls in the gift shop are designed according to that old ideal and can thus be seen as a parody of the western Barbie doll.

 Sugar Cube

The National Palace Museum preserves a miniature ship which can only be seen with a magnifying glass. How cute to have one as a souvenir! The museum is being kind to us, producing the idea of Sugar Cubes for her gift shop: a replica of the ship is pressed inside a sugar cube and when the sugar melts, the little ship will be left floating in your cup of tea.

Vase with a design of flowers and fruits

Vases from the Ming dynasty are truly beautiful to see and, of course, hard to get. But sometimes you can be lucky though… On short notice the museum gift shop will sell a very special five-in-one replica Ming vase. The vase can be a vase, but also five seperate bowls!
